“I was born in Nagano, Japan, surrounded by nature, but it was only in my mid-30s I realised its significance to me. I’ve spent my life being told ‘you’re different’ like that was a bad thing, but nature doesn’t judge me. And watercolour gives me a chance to express my feelings without using words that can be easily misinterpreted.”
